OYOSUBEB Nabs Job Seeker Over Alleged Result Falsification

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, on Thursday evening nabbed one Abosede Ojo, a middle aged job seeker who allegedly falsified her job portal result.

Dr. Nureni Adeniran, OYOSUBEB’s Chairman, said the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Adeniran said that the suspect, who sat for the recruitment cbt examination scored 36, but decided to connive with an examination syndicate who allegedly produced a fake congratulatory message for her.

He explained that the suspect was apprehended during a verification exercise put in place by the Board, for qualified candidates.

Adeniran further explained that the suspect confessed that she did not come for the interview, but liaised with her husband to get herself a congratulatory message.

According to him, the police is on a trail of transactions between the suspect and the cyber-cafe where she got the printout.

He said “the suspect has be handed over to the police, and the board, would track and also apprehend others involved in the illicit act.”

”My advice to others is that they should stop such illicit acts”, Adeniran advised.

OYOSUBEB Set To Onboard 5,600 Newly Recruited Teachers

…As Verification Exercise Begins Dec. 5

The Oyo State Government on Monday said a total of 5,600 newly recruited teachers will be uploaded into its database and thereafter, ready to be deployed to public basic schools across the State.

Speaking in Ibadan, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran said the board has scheduled dates for verification of the newly recruited teachers from Thursday, December 5, 2024 to Monday, December 16, 2024.

Recall that the board recently announced the list of successful candidates who made it through the first batch of teachers’ recruitment.

Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran said the verification exercise will take place at the board’s headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan.

He reiterated the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration towards the welfare of teachers in the State.

Adeniran noted that 5,600 candidates were listed in the first batch, which was duly approved by Governor Seyi Makinde.

In the statement, Dr. Adeniran said the verification session will take 8 working days, and will be witnessed by relevant stakeholders.

  • THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2024: Akinyele and Ido Local Government Areas.

The chairman noted that the scheduled time is 9 a.m. each day.

Japanese Firm Donates Educational Materials to Schools in Oyo

A Japan-based company, Kawasho Foods Trade Corporation and JFE Shoji Corporation, on Wednesday donated educational materials to 10 public basic schools in Oyo State.

The materials, which included 11,000 exercise books, 360 desks, and benches, as well as 150 cartons of canned food products, were distributed among some selected primary schools across the three senatorial districts of the State.

Speaking at the official presentation of the educational materials in Ibadan, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran commended the company for its support towards the State Government’s efforts at providing qualitative education in the State, starting at the basic education level.

Adeniran who urged the donor to continue with their support, noted that “the furniture would improve the pupils’ sitting posture and convenience, while the exercise books would provide writing materials for the pupils, particularly the indigent ones, which would improve their academic performance”.

He said the donation to Basic Schools in the State is a good step in the right direction and it will serve as an encouragement to other multi-national companies operating in the country towards investing in the future of children.

Dr. Adeniran said the company’s gesture will complement the effort of the State Government, noting that the Governor recently approved the recruitment of 7,000 teachers to fill the existing vacancies created by retirement and other factors.

He assured the company that its effort will not be in vain as the materials will be put into good use.

“I enjoin the teachers of the beneficiary schools to reciprocate this good gestures of the Corporation by remaining diligent and dedicated to their duties so that the effect will show or manifest sooner than later”, he said.

“As a board, we appreciate the gift of 360 desks and chairs, 11,000 pieces of 60leaves exercise books, and 150 cartons of Geisha,” Adeniran said.

Speaking earlier, the Africa representative of the company, Mr. Murata Kotaro disclosed that JFE Shoji Corporation and Kawasho Foods Corporation, the brand owner of Geisha brand, have been supporting education in Nigeria since 2011 and have been to more than 15 States.

He added that the company chose Oyo State in 2024 to express gratitude for the support by consumers in the state.

He noted that, “provision of notebooks, desks, and benches each year is to support children’s education, and Geisha canned foods are donated to support the pupils’ diets”.

“It is in line with our corporate social responsibility that, this year in 2024, we officially donate these educational materials of 360 sets of desks and chairs, 11, 000 copies of Geisha branded notebooks, and 150 cartons of Geisha mackerel products to the selected beneficiary schools chosen by the Oyo State school Board”, he said.

Present at the ceremony were the Executive Secretary of the Board, Mrs. Olaide Ladipo, Education Secretaries, management staff of the board, and the country representative of the company, Mr. Agboifo Henry.

The selected schools include F.O.A. Primary School II, Ode-Aje, Ib. (Ibadan N/E Local Govt.); Salvation Army Primary Sch., Yemetu Barracks, Ib. Isese Day: OYOSUBEB Adjusts Timetable, Shifts Aug 20 Interview

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB has made a slight adjustment to the interview timetable for job seekers.

The Board said the interview session set for Tuesday, 20th August 2024, clashes with the Isese Day, which is a public holiday in Oyo State.

The Isese Day has been set aside in Oyo State to celebrate the indigenous Yoruba culture and traditions as well as the preservation of the Yoruba heritage. It is marked annually on 20 August and celebrated by adherents of the Yoruba traditional religion.

Recognizing that the day is a of the day, the Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran swiftly rescheduled the interview date to Monday, August 26, 2024.

Adeniran, who conveyed the decision in an official statement on Tuesday, emphasized the need to respect cultural practices.

He however maintained that all candidates will have equal opportunities to participate in the last stage of the recruitment exercise.

He said, “In view of this observation, the affected LGAs whose interviews were slated for Wednesday, 20th August 2024, have been rescheduled to Monday,” the Chairman stated.

The affected local government areas whose interviews have been shifted from Tuesday, August 20, 2024, include: Saki West, Saki East, Irepo, Oriire, Olorunsogo, Orelope, Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South.

Adeniran called for strict compliance of the rescheduled timetable.

Dr. Adeniran added that the Board’s decision has been met with widespread approval from stakeholders who appreciate the sensitivity and responsiveness shown by the educational authorities.

OYOSUBEB Schedules Interview Dates For Applicants

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, has fixed Wednesday, August 14 to Friday, August 23, 2024, for interview dates for applicants.

Recall that the Board recently announced the result of teachers, who sat for its Computer-Based Tests in Ibadan.

In a statement by the Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran on Wednesday, the interview sessions will take place at the Board’s headquarters at Agodi, Ibadan.

Dr. Adeniran noted that 45, 827 sat for the CBT examination, while only 8,197, met the 50% cut-off mark.

In the statement, Dr. Adeniran said the interview sessions, will be headed by himself and relevant stakeholders from different agencies.

OYOSUBEB Releases CBT Results, Fixes Cut-off Mark

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, has officially released results, of its just concluded computer-based tests.

This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, which was made available to the journalists on Wednesday in Ibadan.

In the statement Dr. Adeniran said the Board has set minimum cut-off marks for qualification to the next stage in the recruitment exercise.

Dr. Adeniran said the cut-off mark in the exercise, is 50%.

The cut off mark, according to him will set the tone for the recruitment process.

He further advised all candidates to log into their portal, as their results have been posted there already.

Dr. Adeniran reiterated the Board’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and services in the State.

FG Trains 56 UBE Effective Schools Master Trainers In Ibadan

The Federal Government has trained fifty-six Master Trainers for the recently launched Universal Basic Education (UBE) Effective Schools Program, selected from States across the Southern part of the country, including Kwara and Kogi States.

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC),

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, announced this in Ibadan during a 5-day training program for the participants.

He also said the program marks a significant step towards enhancing educational quality and accessibility.

Dr. Bobboyi emphasized that the program is part of UBEC’s broader efforts to address the dual challenges of the learning crisis and the high number of out-of-school children.

He said UBEC has taken steps to achieve an effective UBE programme in 111 schools, adding that there are 3 UBE Effective Schools per senatorial zones and 3 in FCT, selected as pilot for the programme.

He said the training of Master Trainers is one of the activities in the implementation of the ESP.

“From here, you will be expected to cascade the training to the teachers in the 111 schools. This is in furtherance of the Commission’s plans to promote smart education at basic education level and lay an enduring foundation for the development of relevant technological skills to cope with the 21st Century world”, he said.

“The Effective School Program was designed to progressively improve instructional tools and practices to maximize the potential of both educators and students within the educational system,” Dr. Bobboyi stated.

“This initiative introduces a new perspective and practice in learning across the 111 schools previously designated as UBEC E-learning centers.”

The schools have been equipped with ICT equipment with alternative power supply to enable technology-supported teaching and learning.

“To this end, the Commission has established 37 Smart Schools, one in each state and FCT, with some already operational. A Digital Resource Centre (DRC) has been built and commissioned”, he added.

Dr. Bobboyi said the establishment of UBE effective schools aims to provide Nigerian children with the necessary resources for improved learning outcomes and the acquisition of 21st-century skills.

Bobboyi reaffirmed UBEC’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to providing functional basic education to Nigeria’s school-age population.

Also speaking, the Executive Chairman, OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran highlighted that the Board under his supervision has keyed into the smart education system initiated by UBEC.

He added that the Board, is currently recruiting, with the aim to employ 7,000 primary school teachers who are digitally literate.

Adeniran maintained that the efficient operation of the Smart schools in the State, will enhance the overall effectiveness of UBE delivery by ensuring that all educational programs meet and maintain minimum standards.

The Director, Teachers’ Development, UBEC, Mr. Mayowa Aleshin said the UBE Effective Schools Program represents a substantial investment in Nigeria’s educational future.

He said it aims to bridge gaps in learning and foster an environment where every child can thrive academically.

The event was attended by UBEC Coordinating Directors, and Head Teachers of UBE Effective Schools.

Oyo To Provide Health Insurance For 10,000 Basic School Pupils

The Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) has reeled out plans to provide health insurance coverage for 10,000 pupils in the State.

This, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Sola Akande said, is in furtherance of Governor Seyi Makinde’s integrated approach to education in the State.

Akande made this known on Wednesday, during a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran.

In his address Dr. Akande noted: “This visit is very timely as the Agency is ready to embark on the enrollment and validation of 10, 000 pupils who will benefit from the Oyo State health insurance policy.”

Dr. Akande maintained that the pupils will benefit immensely from the Agency’s insurance programme.

In his response, the Chairman, OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran promised the Board will take seriously the enrollment exercise.

Adeniran opined that this will be the first of its kind in the country and will be a model for other southwest States going forward.

Dr. Adeniran set up a 6-man committee between the two agencies to work out modalities for the implementation of the policy and expedite actions on it.

He added that the insurance policy will be flagged off in September when a new session resumes.

OYOSUBEB Recruitment CBT Exam Begins July 22

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has fixed Monday, July 22- Friday July 26, 2024, for the computer-based test (CBT), for applicants for primary school teachers recruitment from the just-ended application held in the  State.

The Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, stated this in Ibadan today.

He said a total of 50, 097 applicants scaled the application exercise to take part in the computer-based tests for the available positions.

Adeniran said specific date and time for individual applicants is already being communicated to them  via their email and/or their phone numbers.

Dr. Adeniran therefore advised applicants to check their mails, and phones regularly, for confirmation.

He added that the venue for the exam is University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, Computer Based Testing Centre, Ajibode, Ibadan.

According to him, “The Board has approved that the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, Computer Based testing centre, should conduct the computer-based tests for the applicants because of its long-standing pedigree in such examinations.”

Adeniran instructed all applicants to print copies of their CBT examination schedule and their application print-out, bearing their passports, from the job portal.

The OYOSUBEB boss said the two print-outs will admit applicants into the CBT examination hall.

He also said applicants must adhere strictly to the time and date, sent to them by the Board, as loitering around the centre will not be condoned.

The Chairman maintained that successful candidates from the computer-based tests will be required to appear for oral interview.

Dr. Adeniran reiterated the Board’s commitment to a credible exercise, adding that “no applicant should rely on hear-says. The Board will always give you updates on each step of the exercise, so please beware of scammers.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Adeniran has said the Board is making efforts to conclude the exercise on time so that successful candidates can be quickly injected into the system to join in the ongoing reforms of basic education system in the State.

Cholera: Oyo Gov’t Rolls Out Measures To Prevent Outbreak In Public Schools

The Oyo State Government has implemented measures to prevent cholera outbreak in public basic schools, advising Headteachers to ensure that food handlers follow strict hygiene practices to prevent contamination.

The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran handed down the instruction today, in Ibadan.

He said, the Oyo State Government, through the Board, is on top of its game to ensure public basic schools are taking steps to ensure the health and safety of students.

Adeniran equally urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to adhere to safety guidelines.

Dr. Adeniran said the board will work with Education Secretaries, HeadTeachers, and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance.

The advisory emphasised the importance of hand hygiene, recommending that children carry hand sanitizers and frequently wash their hands with soap and water, especially before meals and after using the restroom.

Dr. Adeniran also recommended that schools keep Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) available in school clinics to manage dehydration cases promptly and to notify the State emergency hotline, 615, immediately in case of any health emergencies or suspected cholera cases.

Adeniran said preventive measures including comprehensive health talks on cholera prevention among learners and staff, and safe drinking water practices, will be conducted regularly.
